Vegan can be a broad term. To help our customers further understand our food and our mission we would like to define what it means to us. We operate under the definition put in place by the Vegan Society dating back to 1949:

"Veganism is a way of living which seeks to exclude, as far as is possible and practicable, all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose."

By this definition, our food does not contain any animal products to include meat, eggs, milk, cheese, honey, gelatin, lactose or any other ingredient derived from an animal. Furthermore, we do not use products where animal testing is required in their manufacture, production and/or distribution.

In 2016 Impossible Foods Inc. launched its revolutionary Impossible Burger in a limited number of restaurants and promotional food trucks. At this time the burger was being manufactured and was approved to be sold in the United States by the FDA. In 2017 Impossible Foods Inc. made the choice to test one of the main ingredients of the Impossible Burger on animals in order to receive a GRAS certification, something not required for a product to be sold in the United States.

Impossible Foods Inc. sought out this certification because it made it easier to market their product to large chains and restaurants (most major chains will not sell any foods with ingredients that are not GRAS certified.) The Impossible Burger was never tested on animals; an ingredient in the burger was and it was not a requirement for the manufacture or distribution of the Impossible Burger. Considering these facts, by our definition and the definition of the Vegan Society, the Impossible Burger is vegan.

We, unfortunately, do not live in a perfect vegan world and we recognize that even our vegan food may have come at the expense of animals in many indirect ways. Many certified vegan foods we sell contain ingredients that were tested on animals in the past. Our goal is to do our best to navigate this non-vegan world and continue to not only provide great vegan food to vegans but to also change the minds of meat eaters and bring the world closer to vegan every day.
